There must be many Marines experiencing all the hardships with active service not to mention the pressures associated with every day life itself. Some may feel happy and love what they are doing, and others may feel quite depressed or unhappy about it. Either way, it is of paramount importance that men actually try and understand those who do not cope with their situation, as well as others. Encouraging more consideration for men who are less content, and helping motivate and encourage the entire team can only help to make the best of the job in hand.

I served six years in the Royal Marines, and if I had stayed in, it would almost be time for me to retire. I remember when I was on my induction course, thinking that this life was not for me, but I could hardly give in, and go home as a failure. The good memories always make me smile, and the bad memories are partly why I am reflecting my thoughts here. For example, when I was about half way through training (just before survival ex) I remember doing a few rounds sparring (boxing) with the Parade Adjutant, Captain Taska, which is almost 22 years ago now and I look back on that with a smile. I also remember tours to Belfast, Norway and HMS Warrior, where I was quite unhappy because I was away from my girlfriend and I was a real welfare case when she dumped me when I got back - can you imagine the support and understanding I got from the lads - not.

I am sure life in the forces could be much better for many men if they had more moral support when they are feeling down, rather than ostracism, which can happen. I could probably fill a few pages here if I wrote about all the fantastic times and some bad times I had both in and out of the Marines. If you are going through a particularly bad time now, then you should still smile, and always remember that you never know what is around the corner, (I am not referring to a land mine). It is absolutely crucial that you make the most of today, every day, every hour, whatever your circumstances and problems, and always remember you can influence fate by being careful, and by being brave.

When I left the marines I did many things, such as setting up a security business, and qualifying as an IFA (Independent Financial Adviser). Later I travelled to the Ukraine to research setting up an international dating business - some say that was brave. Who would have thought I would end up helping British men find Russian and Ukrainian wives? I suppose that makes me pro Globalism and World Peace. I certainly believe in the basic human right to found a family (ECHRFF). You never know what is around the corner so you have got to keep smiling today. If you know anyone over 30 who is still single, then I am sure I can help them realize some hopes and dreams, meeting ladies guaranteed. Life is diverse, Love is universal.
